About this Trek

Escape the everyday and immerse yourself in the pristine beauty of Iceland’s highlands. Our adventurous treks take you through rugged landscapes and scenic terrain only accessible on horseback. Each day concludes at our cozy countryside guesthouse, where you can enjoy a delicious dinner, unwind in the hot tub, and share stories with fellow riders over your favorite beverage.

This is more than a trail ride — it’s an authentic Icelandic tradition. You will travel with a large, loose herd of 50–60 horses, riding 2–3 different horses per day, allowing you to experience the stamina and unique character of the Icelandic horse.

Rider Experience

Suited for intermediate to experienced riders. You should feel confident at all speeds, comfortable in the saddle for several hours, and fine with a steady, medium pace including occasional faster segments.

Adventure Spirit

We travel with a large, loose herd. You should be adventurous and unafraid to step outside your comfort zone. (If you prefer a slower, herd-free ride, check out our Relax & Ride retreat.)

Mounting & Health

You must be able to mount the horse with minimal assistance. We strongly advise having appropriate health insurance coverage.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1 & 2: Preparation & Matching

Meet and match with your horses (Guðmar has a knack for identifying iconic duos!) as we explore the farm, head out on trail rides, and prepare for our journey ahead. Get familiarized and receive orientation to ensure you’re comfortable and confident for the adventure ahead. Includes pickup at Reykjavík’s BSI Bus Terminal at 10:30 am on Day 1.

Set out on full-day treks, with packed lunches fueling your ride through breathtaking scenery. Traverse otherworldly landscapes with a loose herd of 50–60 horses, covering 25–35 km daily. Each evening, you’ll leave your horses at the day’s endpoint and return to our guesthouse by bus just in time for a delicious dinner, ready to do it all again the next day. On the final trekking day, we’ll rejoin the herd and return it to Hestaland.

Enjoy your final breakfast, share last memories with your group, pack your bags, and depart for BSI Bus Terminal in Reykjavík. Drop-off at BSI is around noon.
